About CIH
The Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH) is the professional body for people who work in housing. The CIH is a registered charity and a non-profit making organisation. Its purpose is to maximise the contribution housing professionals make to the well-being of communities. CIH has over 19,500 members who work predominantly in local authorities, housing associations, ALMOs, the private sector and educational institutions. It has offices in Coventry, London, Cardiff, Belfast, Edinburgh and Hong Kong. ConsultCIH is a wholly-owned subsidiary of CIH. In addition to membership, CIH services and activities include: CIH Policy, CIH Professional Practice, CIH Education, CIH Distance Learning, CIH Careers, CIH Events, CIH Training, CIH Publications and CIH Research.
CIH Membership
CIH has a grade of membership for everyone, even if you're not qualified or working in the housing sector. The grades are:
- Affiliate membership is open to anybody who has an interest in housing but has no CIH approved qualifications.
- Student membership is available to anybody who is currently undertaking a housing course recognised by the CIH.
- Practitioner membership denotes that the individual has a housing related qualification recognised by the CIH.
- Associate membership has been created to allow entry to the CIH for people who are professionally qualified in an area other than housing.
- Corporate membership denotes that the individual is professionally qualified in housing including completion of the Test of Professional Practice (TPP), or the new APEX programme.
- Fellowship status denotes that an individual is a senior member of the housing profession.

- Bulletins - Weekly e-mail bulletins with housing news and views, plus a quarterly newsletter for students.
CIH membership also entitles you to select extra benefits from a menu of options, depending on your type of membership and level of subscription.
