The Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH) welcomes the publication of the long awaited social care White Paper and the emphasis it gives to housing and related support services. *ENDS* News release issued on behalf of the CIH by Jill Dwyer, CIH Press Office, Octavia House, Westwood Way, Coventry CV4 8JP. Sarah Davis, Senior Policy and Practice Officer at CIH, said: "While we would like to see quicker progress on working to a consensus on how we build and fund effective care and support services, we are very pleased to see that the importance of housing and related support is acknowledged throughout the White Paper."
She continued: "It is critical that as a society we plan more effectively for the changes we face, and in particular that we build services that give individuals the greatest possible independence and allow them to continue as active members of society.
"Providing an attractive range of housing options, in attractive and accessible neighbourhoods is a significant foundation for everyone’s well being. Adequate funding for adaptations of homes and new technologies will ensure we focus on preventing greater dependence and avoid more costly hospitalisation and residential care."
CIH strongly supports the approach for joined up and integrated services, both at the strategic and individual level called for in the White Paper, and its recent report, Housing, Health and Care, aimed to facilitate that process.
